Lallemand Animal Nutrition presented an innovative study on piglet maturity during this week’s Porcine Research Days in Paris (Journées de la Recherche Porcine 2010). This study defined a set of criteria to assess piglet maturity at birth. This new tool can help farmers evaluate future performance of newborn piglets and assist in reducing their related costs thanks to a more fluid litter management.

It is with deep sadness that the Lallemand team announced the sudden death of Mr. Bruno Rochet, on November 5th, 2009.
Bruno Rochet was Business Development Director for Lallemand Animal Nutrition and was responsible for the Asian market. The combination of his unique human qualities and business vision largely contributed to the development and success of Lallemand. He was also President of the European Probiotics Association (EPA), funded in 1999 at his insistence. Passionate and a visionary, Bruno Rochet was a convincing spokesman for probiotics in animal nutrition and he contributed greatly to their recognition. Bruno was married with four children. We will all miss Bruno and wish to pay him a tribute.

This year, Lallemand Animal Nutrition held its annual swine technical meeting in Denmark, the world’s largest pork exporter. Around 150 participants from the pig and feed industries in Denmark, Germany, France, Poland and the rest of Europe as well as Brazil and the US, gathered near Vejle, on the East coast of Jutland, to discuss and share “new insights on fiber digestibility and sow’s digestive microflora”. The presentations ranged from advanced scientific research to field experience, and, as Pascal Raoul, General Manager for Lallemand Animal Nutrition, summed it up: “Probiotics are now teenagers: they have reached a state of scientific maturity and gained credibility. Lallemand Animal Nutrition’s is now authorized to market its probiotic yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077 (Levucell® SC20 and Levucell® SC 10ME, a micro encapsulated form for inclusion in pelleted feed), in the European Union as a ‘digestibility enhancer’ in horses.
This new authorization of Levucell® SC use is the acknowledgement by the European Authority that the ingredient is safe for animal health, human health and the environment as well as effective in horses in enhancing fibre digestibility and performance.
