07-08-08 : Levucell® SC helps maximize the value of fiber

levucellsc.jpgOne of the key objectives for today’s farmers is to optimize the herd’s production by maximizing the value of the diet. Recent developments on the live yeast front are indeed good news, showing that Levucell SC can help farmers achieve these objectives by enhancing both degradation and digestibility of the fiber in the ration, which in turn increases the ration’s available energy.

A first study published by INRA confirms the positive effects of Levucell SC on rumen fiber-degrading microflora.
In parallel, Guedes and coworkers, form Portugal University, further scrutinized the effect of the rumen specific yeast on fiber degradability of 40 different corn silages of varying quality. While the NDF degradability was improved for all forages, this improvement was even greater for poor quality forages, when the fiber’s initial digestibility was low. Moreover, increased rumen VFAs concentrations in this study confirm that the rumen specific yeast enhances feed utilization.
