03-21-08 : FDA allows functionnality claim for live yeast and ruminant feeding

The Center for Veterinary Medicine of the FDA has agreed to allow an important functionality claim for live yeast applied in ruminant feeding based on a research dossier of more than 39 published trials submitted by Lallemand Animal Nutrition. 03-19-08 : Probiotic P. acidilactici MA18/5M (Bactocell®) : an effective tool in the fight against vibriosis in shrimp production

Lallemand-IFREMER partnership shows the benefits and possible modes of action of probiotic Bactocell in Summer Syndrome prevention in New Caledonian shrimp farms

ifremer.pngResults of on-going Lallemand-IFREMER partnership on probiotic applications and mechanisms of actions in shrimp farming have been published in peer-reviewed journal Aquaculture1. Thanks to an original experimental system, the joint research program conducted by Mathieu Castex in Nouméa, New Caledonia (South Pacific), demonstrated that the administration of Bactocell® (Pediococcus acidilactici MA 18/5 M) in the feed of marine shrimps (Litopenaeus stylirostris) in farms usually affected by summer syndrome, could reduce vibriosis-associated mortality by up to 15%. As a result, final shrimp yield of the farm is increased.

02-18-08 : Milan University confirms Bactocell benefits on layers performance

A new trial conducted by Milan University Department of Veterinary Science and Technologies for Food Safety highlights the benefits of Bactocell supplementation on laying hens zootechnical performance: egg yield and feed efficacy were increased. This new trial corroborates earlier work conducted on laying hens (Dr Awaad, Egypt 2005).p8240004.jpg

When Hy-line W36 hens were fed Bactocell (at 100 g/ton feed) during their whole laying cycle, overall egg yield was improved as compared to control diet: the hens laid more eggs (laying rate is increased by 2%), of bigger size (the proportion of L size eggs increased from 17.36% to 21.24%). At the same time, the amount of feed consumed did not change, resulting in better feed conversion rate thanks to the action of Bactocell in the gut. This aspect is particularly interesting as raw material prices puts extra pressure on farmers.
