The people behind the products: meet Terrance Tillman, Granulation and Packaging, Bacteria production plant, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

Terrance has been with Lallemand Animal Nutrition for 18 years. He is currently working within the bacteria fermentation team, on the last step of the production process for forage inoculants and bacterial probiotics.

Can you introduce yourself?

I’m Terrance Tillman and I have lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin all of my life. I have worked for Lallemand for nearly 20 years in a variety of roles, starting in the shipment and case packaging department and now in my current role with granulation and packaging. In my free time, I like to travel to see my grandkids and visit famous musical hotspots and other fun places. Another accomplishment I’ve had is to own an LLC business.

Please explain your role with Lallemand.

Currently, I work in the granulation and packaging department within the Milwaukee fermentation team. In my current role, I take the bacteria out of the freeze dryers, process the bacteria into a granular and powder, and package in the various foil package sizes.

What is the best part of your role at Lallemand?

The team! Lallemand colleagues have a very close and personal connection; everyone knows each other regardless of which team you are a part of! We have a fun group of people who work well together.

What is the most important part of your role, in relation to producing a high-quality product?

In my daily work, cleanliness and attention to detail are very important to produce a high-quality product.  We have a lot of protocols to safeguard that the bacteria is viable and high quality for Lallemand’s customers. Each step in the process is important to provide a consistent and superior product. In fact, the packaging that Lallemand uses to keep out moisture and oxygen is military grade! This tough barrier ensures that moisture and oxygen can’t enter the package and keeps the product “factory fresh”. We also have a no return policy that further ensures that every package that leaves Lallemand has been properly stored until it reaches the farmer!

What are your top 3 reasons to work at Lallemand?

1. Work environment – the Lallemand leadership team continues to invest in new equipment for the Milwaukee facility and grow our team

2. People and culture – the people are very welcoming

3. Proximity to my home is very nice and convenient

What’s a fun fact about you?

I am very philanthropic and involved in community work.  I have spearheaded many local donations and collections to support the local neighborhoods.  Which is very rewarding.  One of my favorite organizations that I am involved in is Generation Hip-Hop Wisconsin. Generation Hip-Hop Wisconsin gives back to the community through hip-hop music, dancing, and video and supports the arts, and helps promote local Milwaukee artists.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t give up, it could always be worse.

Have you completed anything from your “bucket list”?

Through my involvement in Generation Hip-Hop, I got to travel to New York City and see the places and origins of Hip-Hop. During that trip, I met so many interesting people and really enjoyed the networking that was involved.
