Towards bespoke microbiota management along the life cycle to improve nutrition and health of fish and shrimp
Stéphane Ralite, Aquaculture Product Manager for Lallemand Animal Nutrition, talked today at the Aquaculture Roundtables Series (TARS) 2019 in Bali, Indonesia, about the importance of gut microbiota in aquaculture: “Towards bespoke microbiota management along the life cycle to improve nutrition and health of fish and shrimp”.
As human and other livestock species, fish and shrimps harbor a rich and diverse digestive microflora: the microbiota, which can influence their performance and health. After an overview of the composition and role of the gut microbiota in fish and shrimp, Stéphane Ralite focused on factors that can modulate these microbiota, such as the nature of the feed, which is an important factor. Moreover, scientific studies and various field trials presented during the session indicate that selected probiotics could have a positive impact on shrimp or fish microbiota. In consequence, growth performance can be improved and good health maintained.
