A valuable tool to help cope with high poultry feed costs
In poultry, feed accounts for 70-80% of meat production costs. The recent increases in the price of raw materials have made feed formulation more challenging. The additional cost of feed additives should not shadow their economic benefits, which come in addition to functional benefits for food safety and animal welfare.
In poultry feed formulation, the live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii CNCM I-1079 (LEVUCELL SB) shows consistent, positive effects on performance — including improved feed efficiency, increased body weight, and lower mortality — as displayed in a global multi-analysis including 24 trials. Altogether, an average 4:1 return on investment (ROI) has been calculated, taking into account FCR and mortality effects. Under challenging conditions (sanitary challenges, etc.), this economic benefit can double, with an average 10:1 ROI.
Our calculation indicates that, even in the current high feed price context, LEVUCELL SB supplementation continues to be profitable through improved FCR and reduced mortality rates.
