Satisfying the nutritional requirements of reproductive sows through adequate nutrition is beneficial not only for them but also for their offspring. Hyperprolific sows are notably different from standard sows, so it is important to adapt their diet to satisfy their increasing nutritional requirements. Of special relevance is the maintenance of a proper intestinal environment (microbial profile, health of the intestinal mucosa, etc.).
The use of the specific live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii CNCM I-1079 (LEVUCELL SB) in feed has been demonstrated in many scientific and field trials to be an efficient nutritional solution that helps modulate the farrowing process and improve parameters such as the percentage of stillborn piglets, morbidity along with lactation and overall litter performance.
In a trial performed in Spain with hyperprolific sows, we can see how the effect of the yeast is even stronger. We also get new insights showing the most efficient application of the probiotic happens when it is fed both during gestation and lactation.
